Shelton/Biggs Take Sportsman Win

The VORRA Fallon 250 at night; the annual night race in the heat of summer just outside Fallon, NV near the Top Gun Naval Air Base, is in the books. It was a great race with a decent turnout of cars despite only three weeks prep from the Xtreme Outlaws 250, which was just three weeks after the Yerington race. Definitely a strain on some racers. For those that battled the heat and dust, it was well worth it.

I thought I'd do a little Google search and see what other race teams are out there who have an altruistic angle.  I was super excited to find the 2010 East Coast Race Against Cancer.  Sounds promising.  Held at McCollough's Off Road...looking even better.  Then I realized that its radio controlled off road racing.  Duh!  Foiled again!

Sam Berri proved once again he is the king at VORRA by capturing yet another class and overall win in the stacked 65 car field at this yea's Yerington 300 desert race in Yerington Nevada just southeast of Reno. The course was traditional Yerington fast, fast, fast with a couple of summits and a rough section I like to call "comfortably numb."

Jacques, Summer 2010
Back in '62, Billy Robertson Jr. and Dave Ekins (brother of stuntman Bud Ekins and friend of Steve McQueen) set out on a pair of 250cc Hondas, racing from Tijuana to La Paz. There were no official timekeepers so they documented the ride by stamping a piece of paper at the Tijuana telegraph office and again in La Paz. It took Ekins just under 40 hours to cover the tortuous and beautiful 950 miles of Baja Peninsula. In 1967, NORRA officially established the race, calling it the Mexican 1000 Rally, and a legend was born.
