We’re the Rig of the Month on Gear Centre Group’s 4×4 Club
Ok, technically none of us are Canadian and, technically, we’re only two-wheel drive, but Trevor and his team were kind enough to name us August Rig of the Month on Gear Centre Group’s 4×4 Club website.
We will, however, be heading up to Montreal in October to put the car on display for the World Diabetes [...]

Sneak peek – the 2009 hero card
First draft of the new Desert Dingo Racing hero card.
Roxanne put together a first draft of the hero card we’ll likely use this year. The front has a picture of the car and the back has info on the team and the warning signs of diabetes. We print them in English and Spanish and this [...]

Francis arrives at his new home
Francis rolls out of AWACs.
A.J. picked up Francis earlier today. Francis, as you recall, is a Vietnam era M-274 mechanical mule. Four-wheel drive, four-wheel steering, it can go just about anywhere, just not very quickly. A.J.’s plan is to strip it down and restore it to its original military look in time for the Baja [...]

Crusty’s handiwork
Crusty preps the show hood.
Someone once said that an airplane is “a collection of spare parts flying in tight formation.” That’s pretty much how I view the car now. Anything that breaks can be replaced. The body experiences tremendous torque during a race and afterward we see tears in the metal that comprises the core [...]

WDD race car at the World Diabetes Congress
From the World Diabetes Day website this morning:
Desert Dingo Racing, one of the World Diabetes Day campaign “Champions“, will be displaying the official World Diabetes Day race car – a 1969 Volkswagen Beetle that races the deserts of Mexico’s Baja peninsula during the annual Baja 1000 – at the World Diabetes Congress in Montreal, Canada, [...]

The shocks are in the mail
I’ve got A.J. looking for one of these on Craigslist. It has nothing to do with us, except I want one.
Richard pulled the front shocks off on Saturday. Bob pulled the rear shocks off on Sunday and today they were shipped to Bilstein in Southern California for upgrades in advance of next month’s KC Hilites [...]

1107 on the playa
1107 and Logistics Maven Seth Schrenzel on the playa. (That’s Seth on the right.)
Creech hauled 1107 out to Black Rock Desert for Fourth of JuPlaya and a plethora of team members took turns at the steering wheel. The consensus is that 1107 is “ready to win.” It hauled PVC to Double Hot. It floated across [...]

Prepping for the World Diabetes Congress
The videoconference was a bust (my fault), and so was using our fancy teleconferencing unit (my fault again), but I did connect with the folks at the International Diabetes Federation in Brussels to map out what we’ll likely be doing for the World Diabetes Congress in Montreal in mid-October.
The Congress draws researchers and industry reps [...]
